I have added a collection of photographs and scans to the Fairground Archives. This collection is titled Anne's Carmelcrisp and it can be accessed by either clicking this link or loading from the Fairground Archive menu item.

It is my intention to file every scan or photograph related to Anne's Carmelcrisp in this folder. Today was a good start.

Trying to put an entire Thanksgiving dinner into a meatloaf today. Carol and I were driving to Geulph when I asked Carol to DuckDuckGo the idea of putting the stuffing (good ol' Stove Top), and everything else that made sense into a Turkey meatloaf. The 1st one that came up was one by Rachael Ray - so I used this as the model. It is in the oven now.

Update: We took Turkey dinner to Bronwen's. Turkey dinner with all the fixin's was well received. The only complaint was that I did not put the cranberries right into the meatfloaf - next time.

Lets see if I can display a new photograph - not that it is a new photograph (it was taken in 1974 - not by me).

John David Elving

obit

I received the sad word this morning from his wife Beverly that Dave passed away yesterday. Dave and I go back quite a few years at Loblaw, our careers there being very similar but at different ends of the country. Most of my career was involved in activities in Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime provinces. Dave held important positions in British Columbia and Alberta. Although Dave and I did things very differently we were able to collaborate well and eventually place all of Loblaw under the same set of systems.

After both Dave and I retired, we would meet again in Palm Desert and talk about our days at loblaw over dinner, at the theatre, or just walking. He was the only person from Loblaw that I maintained contact with and a couple of hours with Dave meant that I was completely up to date on that organization.

Carol and Bev became friends and shared all of their experiences raising their families. Dave was particularly proud that one of his sons was a star in Silicon Valley.

A good guy gone. I will miss him. DaveAndBeverlyElving2016

The kids from Parkland were a major story all trough 2018 - from Valentines day to the mid term elections on November 6th. I have been following many of them since February. They have inspired me in many ways.

Today Carol and I received a flyer in the mail from our local Member of Parliament asking our opinion of Andrew Sheer's attempt to repeal Bill C-71. This is Canada's bill to provide reasonable background checks for those wishing to purchase firearms. I am completely in support of keeping C-71 in place and enhancing it. ParklandTutu

We kept Eryn at our place for a couple of days while Bronwen and Glenn moved into their new house.

I was completely startled by this old photo. I am certain that it was from the southern US but still it hit me pretty hard. It was not that long ago. I was not yet 20 years old. White privilege still exists. White privilege is still ugly.

Pizza

food

I made a big mistake by watching a Youtube video of how they make pizza in Naples. It created a terrible desire to make pizza, make it over and over again until I knew how to do it right. Make so much I had to throw it out, it could not be eaten. Today I went looking for an Italian market - one that sold good tinned tomatoes, and Italian "00" flour. I found it in Kitchener. Very busy, very popular, and with all of the authentic products - bulk Caputo "00" flour $2.99 per kilogram, Tuscan tomato sauces. I am in heaven. So I went and bought my second kitchen scale (the first was sold with the house in the desert.) I start again, and I keep with it until it is perfect.

Birds of Chicago

music

My new favourite band. How can you not like them - his crusty voice, she plays banjo, clarinet, and ukulele. The lead guitar plays a a Gretsch 59 Falcon, my favourite guitar sound (same as Luke Doucet). They are a husband and wife team. Allison Russell is from Montreal and still performs in Po'Girl.

We ran out of milk

This morning we ran out of milk and it reminded me that if Carol and I want to drop completely off the grid we will have to buy a cow. Although not completely on topic this photo and it's caption always made me smile.
